ForeFlight Mobile EFB App Reviews

The new Version 8.0 Foreflight Aeronautical Layer is nice in that it shows writing in correct perspective when flying track up to the south. Zooming down now shows the airport diagram. All this is nice BUT to get Aero you must pay $199 if you also want geo referenced plates and charts. Garmin Pilot has better airspace depiction and most of the same features for $150. Furthermore, FF has done the poorest job of any aviation app warning pilots of imminent danger of impacting a tower.

Much anticipated "Aero" layer does not: 1: show airspace or airway altitudes 2: show airspace or center frequencies 3: rendered airspace boundaries do not exactly line up with sectional or ifr charts

Ive been a foreflight user for several years, and quite frankly have been very satisfied overall. The newest map update is very interesting, although I agree with the complaints about certain features such as altitudes associated with airspaces need to be listed in some way. Overall I absolutely see the potential for their new maps with future updates. I give foreflight 5 stars overall, I use this app for both my military and civilian flying jobs and it is by far the most useful app I have ever put my hands on. The military EFB is incredible.

As a user of both ForeFlight and Garmin Pilot I was looking forward to FFs upgrade to data maps to compare to Garmins and sadly there is no comparison. Garmin has it beat hands down. The FF is just plain cartoonish. As the other reviewer noted important info such as SUA altitudes and MEAs is left off. In zooming in you would expect more detail but actually there is less. At least give me the option of including this data if I choose to. Since Im signed up for the upgrade the best I can do is overlay good ole VFR and IFR charts to make it useful.

Just updated. Am a very heavy user. The new version is wonderful. Saw an earlier review suggesting the update was automatic. Its not, the user has the option of updating as always. The amount of detail offered at each zoom level seems just right. If you zoom in far enough all of the sectional data is present. The additional highlighting of restricted airspace is wonderful. Even for IFR the new Aero maps seem to be just right, and if you dont like them you can turn them off (but really why would you?). I really cant imagine flying without this App. The only feature I dont use is logbook. Without the ability to keep a separate synced record on a laptop, so records can be scanned and searched, its just not useful. Yes the App has gotten more expensive, but its so feature-rich I still believe its an excellent value. In fact its the only reason I have an iPhone - would have switched long ago. Apple should be paying FF.

Foreflight is an app used by both amateur and professional pilots every day. It provides charts (maps), weather info., flight planning and more in an intuitive, fast form. It is updated seamlessly and reliably. Most run it on an ipad and use it in the cockpit to help get them safely to their destination. It was designed by pilots for pilots and unlike many programs is owned and run by end users, all pilots themselves. It is continually improved, and each change brings the user accurate and timely information.mi give it five stars plus.

Have used,enjoyed and relied on ForeFlight Mobile basic for several years. Very impressed with large array of features, ease of use, and frequent upgrades and improvements. An added bonus is the quick and competent response to support questions. Although the problems were mostly user-induced, it was very impressive and reassuring to have such support service.

Less than impressed. The chart is still upside down in certain circumstances. I Had a forced landing in a 182 recently and Garmin pilot app of one of the passengers helped us through it not my ForeFlight. Garmin Glide ring indicated that we should turn back to the further airport instead of attempting to glade forward to the nearer airport due to winds, mountainous terrain, alt, etc. Interestingly the silly ForeFlight logbook was of no use. Please focus on the things pilots need. Thanks.

The product just gets better and better over time; while the customer support has been outstanding from day one - both for our air charter operation, and our pilots private accounts. Please keep on doing what you are doing.

So my app would not finish updating today and then just froze during the update. Now I cant remove the app from iPhone, even with latest software 10. Please fix... thanks! Once fixed Ill return to 5 stars. Thanks again!

Constantly crashes since 2 updates ago. I cannot use it for flight training, and Im on my instrument rating. I have not updated to iOS 10 as it has not been approved by the foreflight team.

Not a particular fan of the new aeronautical layer. I wish that I hadnt spent the upgrade money but they bundled it with synthetic vision. The zooming down to the airport is nice but what I dont like is that airspace constraints arent shown. I can see the Class Bravo but I have no idea what the altitudes are. I can overlay sectional and aeronautical data but that makes it really messy and hard to read. They also got rid of the terrain layer and we really need that out here in the west. It is very helpful in picking routes (IFR & VFR). Not the future of maps that I was looking for.

I love that you can layer the new aero map over sectionals, terrain, or streets. This is very cool. Zoom in close to an airport and the runways and FBOs show up. I cant wait to go flying with this version. Well done!

Love this app. I use it every time I fly and have used it for years. I always look forward to updates. They actively keep improving this app all the time. Great job. Keep up the good work.

Rarely do companies release an update that moves a product backwards. The new foreflight 8 provides little to no progress if any at all. The company has discussed for a long time their improved version 8 feature set however other than the aeronautical apps which are IMHO a less useful version of Jepps VFR/GPS maps, there appears to be little change. This all said, the most frustrating aspect is the customer service experience and their inability to implement feature requests. While they reply quickly to emails, their "experienced" technical team always provides the same answer that the feature request will be discussed. Furthermore, its been weeks since it was communicated that v8 was not compatible with iOS 10 yet no update to when they will be compatible together has been provided. I realize that my specific requests are not the benchmark for change, though to release a new version with no apparent change and years of change requests by thousands of pilots, it seems that foreflight is content with simply being a media manager vs a ground breaker in the industry. I highly suggest looking at other options prior to spending your money on foreflight until the company can recage and do what they did in their inception vs the stagnicity they demonstrated with their latest release.

Foreflight is an awesome app. I have been using foreflight for 2 years, the app is great for situational awareness. I called foreflight with questions regarding the app, Robin from the pilot support team is very knowledgeable and answered all my questions very quickly.

I am a professional pilot and have been for over 30 years. Ive used every "latest and greatest" throughout the years and Foreflight sits firmly at the top of my list as the best tool available for pilots. Period. And as awesome as it is, they just keep making it better and better. Not to mention, their customer service is outstanding. I recently had a question so I emailed them. Liz responded immediately with the answer to my question. So Foreflight is not just an app that exists somewhere in the ether. Its also dedicated Pros that stand behind their product with amazing customer service. If youre not using Foreflight, my question to you is, why not?

ForeFlight is the reason I “jumped ship”, and embraced iOS. Ive been a FF fan since my “dinosaur” iPad 1 days, and it has never let me down. ... its one of the very few apps Ill gladly pay a subscription for ... frankly, I dont see how anyone — from Student to veteran — can fly without it.
