ForeFlight Mobile EFB App Reviews

A good app - but USA only

I have installed and purchased 1y plan for this App, which, in itself is very good, however, being in Europe, it is of NO use for me... En route VFR charts for europe are inexistant, most of airports are not implemented, and in the air, no 3G for the openmaps that requires it. Maybe one day??

Drains all Battery when forgotten

The App drains all Battery when forgotten some shutoff with confirmation should be implemented when no external power and not on an moving map or not considerably moving.

Fantastic tool

Im an (german) VFR PPL and I got my license in 1994 from the Stanford Flying Club. I used ForeFlight during a long cross country flight from Fayetteville (KFAY) to Westchester County Airport (KHPN) north of NYC. To give an executive summary first: ForeFlight brings aviation to the next level of flying. The software provides (besides others) a full coverage of VFR sectionals stitched together to one big map. TACs are worked in to it. I used it for flight planning and in flight for enroute navigation. I prepared all airport plates and was so able to easily find all frequencies, runway and taxi way layouts and weather conditions even enroute on one (!) device paperless. The positioning on the map by GPS of my iPad was sometimes off of estimated some hundred feet even so the precision was shown by 10 meters. The maps sometimes seems not to be perfectly geo-referenced. I never found that a problem though. We avoided a restricted area (R-4005) and the controller got nervous since we "where just half a mile away from the border" clearly manageable with ForeFlight. The software is very intuitive to handle. Enroute changes can be applied with the tip of your finger. Weather data (radar and sat and many others) can be overlaid to the maps. An extremely helpfully feature. Even if 3/4G coverage aloft is only occasionally and at rather low altitude available one can update the data from time to time e.g. in a stop over. Over all for me as a rather inexperienced pilot ForeFlight is a affordable revolution. But also my co-pilot and >5000 hours CFI was impressed and plans to sign in to ForeFlight for his professional work. An also strong plus is the highly responsive support of the company. All (also newbee) emails were answered within 15 minutes. Strong plus for me. Im still on a trial account witch worked just fine. Overall: must have. Im looking forward to the next versions may be with digitized maps with flexible rendering (e.g. show airspace only). Dr. Michael R. Alvers

Super!

The app itself is awesome! Live weather, NOTAMs and airport info. Everything works smooth. BUT BE AWARE: you are reminded 6 weeks off the end of your membership. If you extend it right away, it starts from that date on and not from the end of the membership!!!

Canada

I agree Canada is far over priced at this time. Give me a reasonable explanation why its so expensive and I may be willing to pay for it. Otherwise no go.

PRICING

Appears to be excellent value for USA aviation. As for Canada toooo much for what you get in comparison. Is the problem NavCanada? FltPlan for the iPad works OK for me. Until such times as the pricing is reflective of value Ill retain what I have. Thanks for the opportunity.

Pretty spiffy

Obviously its no good if you are vfr in Canada, but vfr in the states is amazing. With wifi and cellular off, it still gives you an amazingly accurate visual display of your location and route. I just used fbo wifi to update weather and ceilings along my route at each fuel stop. Pretty much the number 1 reason I bought an iPad, and I feel absolutely no remorse. IFR in Canada is also great, but I havent flown IFR in the USA with it yet, so Ill withhold judgement for now.

Foreflight v Jeppesen

I find this a lot better value than Jeppesen. They are TC approach plates with the expiry date marked. The only thing missing is GFAs. I paid $400 for the Jeppesen plates and now I find I use Foreflight all the time. Yes there is better for VFR but IFR I find it great.

Canada

Please please please Canada VFR charts!!!!!!!!!!!!! I will buy if you include Canada!!!! Transport Canada certification wouldnt hurt either:-)

Review

Fantastic app. Sure help GA pilots flying single pilot ifr. Could use xm wx though.

Great App

Wonderful app. It really pays for itself. Cancelled most of my paper copies. The Canadian version is awesome.

Works great

This app works great. I use it in the cockpit as a gps and it is very simple to use. Also, the flight preparation is simplified and all the informations needed are available as weather, wind direction...I have one place to go to check my flight before departure when I have the wifi available. It is so easy...

Vfr charts

Will vfr charts be available for Canada any point ? Good for certain things in Canada but why bother spending money if your not getting a package worth using Include vfr charts and continue to upgrade this product then it will be worth purchase

Great app, but not in Canada

Purchased the Canada+US Package. VFR maps are only available in the US, but even for IFR most of the features (flight planning etc.) only work in the US. I expected more from a 150$ IFR Canada package. Considering that VFR and IFR for the US cost only 75$. Good thing is that I could cancel my subscription and I got a refund without any problems. Service is great, and so is the product. But not for Canada.... Guess NavCanada is the problem...

Great app

Amazing app. Unfortunate that the VNC in Canada is yet to be available. That being said makes life extremely easy. Im a flight instructor and checking peoples work with this app makes life so much easier.

Great app for IFR pilots

This app is real good on my iPad mini, iPhone 5. I dont really have much to complain about this product other than I wish it came with Canadian VFR charts

Simple to use, comprehensive & cost effective

As a GA pilot over 40 years and having used many of the portable GPS tools over time, I find Foreflights app one of the simplest yet very complete flight tracking tool plus a comprehensive EFB. Used in combination with the Stratus or the Dual GPS it offers all the information for effective IFR or VFR flying As such, a highly recommended App - Juan F (Canada)

Excellent!

Great product that continues to improve.

O Canada

Woo Hoo - Ive been using Foreflight IFR in Canada for years. Love ease of use and functionality. Now with the VFR VNC charts we have taken a huge step towards being electronic VFR too. Theyve gotten me excited that some day in the near future Ill be able to leave my CFS on the ground.

Canadian VFR content!!!

An excellent app, however I was always frustrated that they didnt have Canadian VFR charts (Nav Canada hadnt released them). Not an issue any longer! Am excited to now have nearly full functionality (still need flight planning and restricted airspace) on this excellent program.
